    Frequently asked questions

A few of the questions I'm most often asked. If yours isn't here, please get in touch — I'd love to hear from you.

Therapy can help with many of life's challenges, whether you're feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, low in mood, struggling with past experiences, navigating relationship difficulties, grief, burnout or simply feeling like you've lost your way.

You don't have to be in crisis to come to therapy. Sometimes people come because they want to understand themselves more deeply, feel more connected to who they are, or find a gentler way of moving through life. Whatever brings you here, you'll be met with warmth, compassion and without judgement.

If you're wondering whether therapy might help, you've already taken an important first step.

You don't need to have everything figured out before you begin. You don't need to know exactly what's wrong, or even be able to put it into words. Sometimes people simply know that life feels harder than it should, or that they're carrying something they can no longer manage alone.

Therapy offers a safe, supportive space to gently explore whatever is going on, at a pace that feels right for you.

The first session is really just a conversation.

It's an opportunity for us to get to know one another and for you to tell me, in whatever way feels comfortable, what's brought you to therapy. There is absolutely no pressure to share everything in one session. We go at your pace, not mine.

You'll also have the opportunity to ask me any questions, so that together we can decide whether working together feels like the right fit for you.

Each session lasts 60 minutes, giving us enough time to settle into the conversation without feeling rushed.

Most people begin with weekly sessions, as this provides consistency and allows the therapeutic relationship to develop naturally.

As therapy progresses, some clients choose to move to fortnightly sessions, and monthly sessions are also welcomed. We'll always discuss this together and decide what feels most supportive for you.

There's no fixed number of sessions because every person and every story is different.

Some people come for a short period to work through a specific issue, while others choose longer-term therapy to explore deeper patterns or heal from complex life experiences.

We'll regularly check in together to make sure therapy continues to meet your needs.

Yes. I work exclusively online, allowing you to access therapy wherever you feel most comfortable.

Many clients tell me they actually prefer online therapy because there's no travelling afterwards—you can simply close your laptop and take a few quiet moments for yourself. Being in your own familiar surroundings can also help you feel more relaxed and able to open up.

    Absolutely.

One of the lovely things about online therapy is that you don't need to sit in a waiting room or travel anywhere. You can create a space that feels comforting and safe for you.

Bring a cup of tea or coffee, wrap yourself in your favourite blanket, curl up with cushions, or settle into your favourite chair. Some people light a candle, have their dog nearby, wear their comfiest clothes or simply enjoy being in a space that feels familiar.

There is no expectation to look a certain way or have everything perfectly organised. Come exactly as you are. My hope is that therapy feels like a space where you can take a breath, feel supported and simply be yourself.

    All you'll need is:

    • A reliable internet connection
    • A device with a camera and microphone
    • A quiet, private space where you won't be interrupted
    • A comfortable place to sit

Headphones can also help with privacy and sound quality, but they're completely optional.

Yes. Research has shown that online therapy can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy for many people.

What matters most is the quality of the therapeutic relationship—the feeling of being heard, understood and accepted. That connection can absolutely be created online.

I work in an integrative, trauma-informed way, which means I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches depending on what feels most helpful for you.

Rather than following a rigid formula, I tailor therapy to the individual sitting in front of me. Every person is different, and I believe therapy should reflect that.

Rather than telling you what you should do, my role is to help you understand yourself more deeply.

Together we'll explore your thoughts, feelings, experiences and patterns so that you can begin to trust your own inner wisdom and make choices that feel right for you.

Yes. Everything you share with me is treated with the utmost respect and confidentiality.

There are a small number of legal and ethical exceptions, such as if there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or someone else, concerns about the safety of a child or vulnerable adult, or where disclosure is required by law. Wherever possible, I would always aim to discuss this with you first.

    That's completely okay.

There is no right or wrong way to be in therapy. Some people cry, some laugh, some sit quietly, and some aren't quite sure what they're feeling yet.

    Whatever shows up is welcome.

We'll move at a pace that feels manageable, and there is never any expectation for you to share more than you're ready to.

Of course, you're very welcome to email me if you need to rearrange an appointment or have a practical question.

Therapy itself takes place during our scheduled sessions, as this helps keep the work contained, safe and supportive for us both.

Life happens, and I completely understand that sometimes plans change.

I simply ask for at least 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment. Appointments cancelled with less notice may be charged in full, except in exceptional circumstances.

Sessions are £70 for 60 minutes.

Concessions are available, so please don't let the cost be a barrier to booking a session.

Payment details will be provided when your appointment is confirmed.

    Yes.

Much of my work centres around helping people who have experienced trauma, whether that's a single difficult event or the lasting impact of childhood experiences, relationships or emotional wounds.

My approach is always gentle and trauma-informed. We focus first on creating safety and building resources before exploring anything that feels difficult. You will never be pushed to talk about something before you're ready.

Getting started is often the hardest part—but you've already taken a step simply by being here.

If you'd like to work together, just get in touch. We can arrange an initial session where we'll talk about what's bringing you to therapy, answer any questions you may have and see whether it feels like the right fit for us both.

There's no pressure and no obligation—just a warm welcome.

    Feeling nervous is incredibly common.

Many people worry they'll say the wrong thing, become emotional, not know where to begin, or feel uncomfortable talking to someone they've never met.

Please know that you don't have to prepare. You don't have to have the right words. You don't even have to know exactly why you're struggling.

You simply need to show up as you are.

From there, we'll begin together, one conversation at a time.

I have a Clinical Will in place. Should I become unable to practise due to serious illness, incapacity or death, a trusted Clinical Will Executor will contact current clients with care and compassion, and help them access alternative therapeutic support.

Only the minimum required information (initials and a contact number) is held securely for this purpose. You can read more on the Legal & Clinical page.
